This diff was an earlier one with some debug printfs in so you can see how
the tuning knobs work. I was only keeping an eye on a young computer user's
activities so ignored small screen changes and wrote out the stills to lossy
jpegs with libjpeg. If you plan on saving screens no matter if there are
changes or not then I'd throw away all the g_bitmap_data_last_write stuff.
diff is against rdesktop-1.6 with whatever patches are in ubuntu 9.04
jaunty. Added libjpeg62-dev in addition to the regular rdesktop build
dependencies. Have fun and thanks for letting me know what you end up with.

Moved call to seamless_restack_test from ui_init to end of
ui_create_window. This seems to fix problems the WTS disconnecting the
session due to "DATA ENCRYPTION" errors. At this point, it's unknown
why this patch fixes the problem, but ui_create_window is a good place
for seamless_restack_test() in any case.

Re-worked the support for SeamlessRDP window stacking:
* Since many window managers cannot properly restack a window between
two other windows, we need to check for this at startup.
* A new utility function, sw_wait_configurenotify, is used to wait for
the WM to process our restacking request.
* We are using XReconfigureWMWindow instead of XRestackWindows and
XRaiseWindow, to easier meet the demands of ICCCM. Restacking between
is only done if the WM is not broken, though.
* The error handler does not ignore BadMatch from ConfigureWindow
requests any longer. I haven't found any WM that gives BadMatch for
XReconfigureWMWindow.
* The test cases has been updated to test more stacking cases.
A somewhat related bug fix wrt focus handling is also included, which
prevents FOCUS messages when reverting focus from a destroyed window

We still had some problems with the shift key getting stuck. The new
code makes sure that we restore "faked" modifiers both after press and
release. It's also shorter.
I've added two new test cases to the doc as well.

None of the drivers requires it to be open to determine supported formats,
so let's not require it. This allows the device to be busy when rdesktop starts

Improve performance of (large) directory listings: Avoid
stat:ing each file many times.
The patch modifies rdesktop so that the g_notify_stamp is only set
when writing. Also, the stamp is not set before disk_create_notify(),
since this would mean that NotifyInfo would be called twice directly.
With this patch, the number of stat:s has dropped from 24 to 4, using
my tests.

Recover missing 4 bytes in audio-stream thanks to a hint in an old
email from Robert Sanders <esquimaux73@mailblocks.com>:
I found a trick that seems to solve this. Basically, I copy the last
4 bytes of the RDPSND_WRITE command that precedes the sample data.
It's not being used by anything else. I can't tell whether this is
some trick to "pre-load" the sample buffer, or some error in
rdesktop's interpretation of the RDP sound protocol.

Windows Vista Beta 2 sends a disconnect PDU with reason 0 when reconnecting
to a disconnected session (I do not know if this is a bug or a feature).
Previously we would drop the connection.
I suspect that in general we shouldn't be dropping the connection in
response to the disconnect PDU; we should treat it as informative like the
logon PDU and just save the status.

Removed the localstate keyword from translations using numlock. This
combination doesn't work very well, for a number of reasons. In
Windows, Shift+KP_key isn't the same thing as NumLock+KP_key. For
example, Shift+0x53 (the Delete key) actually means BackSpace! This
behaviour isn't expected in X11.
With this patch, rdesktop should now work just like most X11
applications, such as standard KDE apps. Additionally, it improves
compatibility with those environments that fakes NumLocks with Shifts,
such as Xvnc.

New race free implementation of the rdesktop-to-rdesktop clipboard protocol.
We now use the property on the root window merely as a way of notifying other
windows that something happend. The actual formats are queried directly from
the current clipboard owner. The new model should be easier to extend with
XFixes support.

Explicitly list the files to cproto, instead of using *.c. This avoids
troubles if you have some old files in the working directory
(foo.c). Also, the order will be more permanent, which avoids
unncessary changes to proto.h. The sound API is defined by
rdpsnd_oss.c; no need to include the others.

Disk unit names seem to be truncated at seven characters on the WTS,
and I can't see any field allowing for longer names. This is not very
surprising, since native clients export drive names ("A", "H" etc.).
Telling the user that the name is truncated at seven, not eight,
characters.

Sometimes, the boxcx value is something really large, like 32691. This
makes XCopyArea fail with Xvnc. If boxcx is this large, reset to
g_width - boxx.
(The reason why boxcx is strange is that os->boxright is strange. I
have no idea what's causing this, though.)

reworked the asyncio some and completed it. parallel and serial uses it now. disk.c is a likely candidate for the future, but there are some problems with disk.c that we will have to look into first. parallel and serial works better, they do not hang the session, but are still yerky at large chunks... possibly we could split the chunks, but the terminal server does not seem to like partial transfers, i've tried some variations.. :) fns->write() could be split in smaller pieces, but what should the thresholds be.

Got colordepth > 8 bits to work again (apparently, another byte must be set in the client info
depending on the depth wanted).
I think we need to be a bit careful and check what depth the server is really giving us, or
we will have strange results sometimes.

Got bitmap decompression to work. It turned out Microsoft doesn't care about sending the compressed
bitmap header any longer, instead the size of the compressed bitmap data is sent in the bitmapLength
field of the cache bitmap order. Of course this doesn't concur with T.128.
Added more detailed debugging which helped in finding this.

Send a "4" instead of a "1" in the correct place if we try to support RDP5.
Updated client build. We now aim at being 2600 compatible :-).
Set up the clipboard redirector at this protocol level as well (see also
mcs.c)
Do the new-style encryption setup using RSA and X.509 routines from
OpenSSL. That sounds easier than it is (!).
Added some comments and debug output.
Process RDP5 channel data (for channels != MCS_GLOBAL_CHANNEL).
Send the username to mcs_connect.

Send different logon packets based on if we try to support RDP5 or not. The
order of the data is slightly different in RDP5.
Moved pointer PDU handling to their own functions, since RDP5 no longer
encapsulates ColorPointer and CachedPointer in a PDU with a type field.
Made debug output when doing Bitmap updates clearer. Also added debug
printout when bitmap compression failed.
Added code that checks for a new way of sending the size of the compressed
bitmaps. Code imported from Matt's RDP5 adventures :).
Debug output when doing Palette updates in order to make it easier to follow
packets.
Fetch the number of orders here instead of in process_orders and send it
along to that function as an argument.
Send the username to sec_connect.

Changed some of the data sent from mcs_send_connection_initial - the
number of channels being the most important.
Don't assume the length of the data coming back from the server is
of the same length that the data we sent was.
Record the channel id of incoming MCS packets.
Send username to iso_connect, in order for it to be able to send the
mstshash.
Open the clipboard channel if we are speaking RDP5.

owncolmap reintroduced, basically the same code, but with a switch -C. didn't use the -v switch as in the patches. I believe it is confusing and should be reserved for -version information. Other than that I can say that the code does not work as it does in the patches... haven't found what's wrong with it. bit shifting?

On Solaris Break is Shift-Pause not Alt-Pause - so when checking for

Reinstate a cleaned-up version of the old xwin_toggle_fullscreen - I indeed
can't get it working reliably with all window managers without creating a
new window.

Revert to old behaviour of connecting before creating the UI.
This is to stop the UI generating input before the connection is complete
(which causes connection failures). The one difficulty is that ui_select
is now called before ui_create_window, which may cause problems for other
UIs - we may still need to change this in the future.

Committing some awesome progress I made while overseas - this commit
really embodies a huge number of changes. We are now able to talk quite
fluently to a French NT Terminal Server - in normal usage only minor
font issues remain (handling of TEXT2 order is not perfect).
The next major hurdle is encryption, and it will be quite a big hurdle
- there seems to be some quite nasty session key stuff.

Miscellaneous updates: implemented some more protocol features including
colour maps. Started on a new bitmap decompression engine which is not
completely working yet - however I am going back on the road so I am
committing now.

Started hacking on an X-Windows (Xlib) interface.
Currently pops up a window and displays bitmaps it sees side by side.
Next step is to go back to the protocol and interpret the surrounding data
stream.
