Geomycin<b><sup>®</sup></b> retard 20% is a broad antimicrobial antibiotic. It is active against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, against mycoplasmas, spirochetes, rickettsiae, chlamydiae and protozoa (<i>Anaplasma</i> spp., <i>Theileria</i> spp. and <i>Cowdria</i> spp.). In sensitive strains it interferes with protein synthesis and exerts bacteriostatic effect. Given by intramuscular injection, Geomycin<b><sup>®</sup></b> retard solution has markedly prolonged action. Oxytetracycline exerts specific affinity for pulmonary tissue, which makes Geomycin<b><sup>®</sup></b> retard 20% a drug of choice in the management of pneumonia. Its single dose achieves efficient blood- and tissue- levels that are maintained over 3-4 days.
